Transport for Rome

Two lines of Metro in Rome, 48 stations for a rail network of 36 km. A bus network of 2800 units for 350 different routes and then trams and regional trains. Not a bad range for the Roman public transport, numbers that are showing slow improvements but certainly have a "long way" still to do for a capital such of Rome with 2.8 million inhabitants and with over 20 million visitors a year.
Here you find some informations about the public lines wich you may need in Rome:

Subway has two lines: Metro A (marked by red) and Metro B (marked by blue), the logo of a white "M" on red background indicates the presence of a subway stop.
The two lines intersect in "Termini" Central station, the main hub of all public transports, local and regional. The Metro A has 27 stations through the capital from South-East to North-West, the gates are open at 05.30 and the service usually ends at 23:30 from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, while ends at 1:30 on Friday and on Saturday. The timetable is just the same for the line B that with its 22 stations goes from South to North-East of Rome. Both of Metro run approximately every 3-5 minutes.

Buses and trams work from 5:30 am until midnight, from 00.30 until 5:30 am instead working more than 20 nigh lines, whose terminals are in Termini (Piazza del Cinquecento) and in Piazza Venezia.

The night bus stops are marked with an "N" and with the symbol of an owl, the tickets can be purchased directly on board. Tickets are the same for bus, tram and subway, can be purchased at any tobacconist and newspapers store or at the automatic machines inside any subway stations. Remember to buy your ticket before getting on buses because not all of them are equipped with tichet machines.

The cost of one ticket is 1 euro and it is valid for 75 minutes on buses and trams, and for a single run on subway, wherever you go. There is the chance to buy daily ticket at the price of 4euros, 3days ticket at 11euros and weekly ticket at 16euros.

Brancaleone - Music and Culture Revolution in Rome

Open since February 1990 with the occupation of an abandoned building property of Municipality of Rome. The self-run center Brancaleone comes in the wake of the many occupations of social center start of mid 80s. After several attempts of clear by the police over the years, the center Brancaleone has managed to keep so and to attract more and more people in Rome through important social and cultural initiatives.

The music sector is undoubtedly the most obvious with the night dance events, live concerts, theater and video permormances and with a own recording studio the "Hombre Lobo" of Via Levanna,11. The center is also since the opening active with enterprises related to the territory, trade, cinema and visual arts. What I especially love of this multiarts-cultural premises and I would like to introduce to you is the club.

Nowadays Brancaleone is one of the best and well known "underground venue in Rome, landmark for the Roman night life:

From Wednesday to Saturday is guaranteed a program of music expecially focused on new dance developments, reggae, hip hop and rock music. Wednesday is often dedicated to the Italian hip hop live performances, with the sound of the best rapper of the Italian scene, a must for who loves the genre.

Thursday there is the loved "One-Love" night, where listen reggae between a dance and a green sigarette all together. Friday is the night that I most prefer, an appointment with the techno and electro world music of high-profile, Dj set e live set among the most important in the global club culture Groove Armada, Swayzak, Alex Under, John Digweed, Dave Clarke and Joel Zimmerman just to say a few...

The Saturday night is called "Eclettica" and resident Djs will spin sound of house and electro. Every day is also a place where to take a drink in the bar or watching some art exhibition.

Branca had in the recent years a total restyling, dark, artsy, light installations and minimal atmosphere, a style that recall the small clubs in London and New York, an unique experience in Rome. The Center is located in Via Levanna 11, area Nomentano. The best way to get there from the center is by car or by taxy if you haven't got one, fifteen minutes and you arrive. If you do not want to make the queue to enter I suggest you not to go too late, it is unknown for tourists, but it's much loved from locals.

A snack for Night Owls in Rome

There's no one time after a night spent out in Rome me and my company don't stop somewhere to eat something. A Cornetto with a Cappuccino, a sandwich or even a Carbonara Pasta and steak, here for you guys some of the best places of Rome where to eat until the first lights.

I start to talk about a category of sandwich-shops called "Zozzone", it literally means "the Dirty One", they are stalls or vans transformed for sale sandwiches and other take-away snacks.Sausage, burger, frankfurter, chicken or Porchetta with a large variety of vegetables in oil, pickles and sauces. You make the sandwich with the ingredients you want: four, five, six layers of stuff in two slices of bread, now immagine when you are hungry after a long night what a sandwich you can do! Here's the origin of the name.

There are many Zozzoni around Rome open from evening till dawn, a couple of them really deserve a note:

Number one for the Romans by night is "Giorgione", he uses Danish beef and a lot of seasonings, the most filthy, inimitable, it's the best. It's in Via di Corso Francia, 15 minutes from San Peter church, direction Olimpic Stadium.

The other Zozzone is "Jhonny", it's a van always playing loud music it's very funny I like it, the guy here fills up your sandwich with shovelful of stuff, a little heavy but very nice taste! This is in the center of Rome, 3 minutes walking from Piazza del Popolo.

If you are looking for something more simple, less sophisticated then in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II,225 near Campo de Fiori there is "Dogout", in my opinion the best hot dog you can eat in Rome center.

Few steps from Collosseum there is a Restaurant open till 5 am, "the Base" in Via Cavour, 274 the only place in the City where you can enjoy a pizza, a steak with fried or pasta all night long and quality is not too bad,we can also meet some VIPs here, it's a very popular place.

How we say "dulcis in fundo" for a delicious hot cornetto (croissant) with cappuccino and other sweets "Bar Brasile", in Piazza Venezia 5/a with the breathtaking backgrond of "Altare della patria".
